Giver post #2

I think that the giver thinks that making choices would be frightening to people because they do not know what the outcome of their choice would be like. Would it be good or bad? how would it affect them and the people around them. I also think that making choices would scare people when it came to something important. It may affect the rest of their lives for the better or for worse. I also think that it might scare those who might not be ready to lead and only feel comfortable by being leaded.

That seems to be the situation in Jonas' community, no one makes choices except for the elders and the council. Everyone else has to follow. It might also be that the council doesn't let people have choices because they might think that the people's choices could ruin the community's peaceful way of life. And it might seem that making choices in our world might not seem like much, but In Jonas' its a whole different story.

But if people were allowed to make choices, then I believe that their community might turn out to be a lot more like our society today. Things such as crime, shops, and sports might be present if they started to do things the way we do today, it might even be an identical society, but their world is black and whit and ours flourishes with color and feelings. I wonder why theirs isn't colored. It may be because they want everything to be plain and simple to keep people from wondering "Is this the only thing in life?" It may also be because the things outside of these people's communities are dangerous and can change their perfect way of life. But What If they were exposed to this?
